Racing Team V.D.S.

En 1964, le Comte Rodolphe van der Straten Ponthoz décide de créer le Racing Team VDS. Cette jeune équipe au caractère familial va, petit à petit, engranger les succès aux quatre coins du monde sur plusieurs décennies.

Des Mini-Cooper et Alfa Romeo des débuts en passant par McLaren, Chevron, Lola ou Penske, l'équipe gravira les échelons du sport automobile en se battant avec courage dans les championnats européens, australiens et américains. Elle ira remporter deux titres de F5000 British et un titre F5000 Tasman, jusqu'à la consécration ultime : le titre CanAm avec une voiture de sa propre fabrication, la VDS 001.

De nombreux pilotes de talents tels que Teddy Pilette, « Taf » Gosselin, Rob Slotemaker, Peter Gethin, Warwick Brown, Geoff Brabham, Patrick Tambay, Geoff Lees, Al Holbert ou John Andretti pour ne citer qu'eux, se succéderont avec des fortunes diverses au volant des voitures rouges à bandes bleues et blanches.

L'histoire de ce team belge à l'étonnante longévité est racontée ici sans concessions, en n'omettant ni les victoires, ni les difficultés pour arriver aux sommets de chaque discipline. Le tout ponctué par les témoignages des pilotes, mécaniciens et ingénieurs de l'époque.

In 1964 Count Rodolphe van de Straten Ponthoz founded the VDS team.

Litle by little this family-run newcomer would garner success in all 4 comers of the world over several decades.

Running Mini-Coopers and Alfa Romeos early on, then McLarens, Chevrons, Lolas and Penskes the team gradually climbed up the motor sport ladder courageously taking the fight to the front-runners in the European, Australian and American championships.

VDS won two F5000 British titles and an F5000 Tasman championship on their way to the pinnacle of their career, the CanAm crown with their own car, the VDS 001.

Many talented drivers like Teddy Pilette, « Taf » Gosselin, Rob Slotemaker, Peter Gethin, Warwick Brown, Geoff Brabham, Patrick Tambay, Geoff Lees, Al Holbert and John Andretti to name but a few enjoyed success and varied luck at the wheel of the red cars with blue and white stripes.
