In the years before World War I, Berlin was the centre of an in¬tensely competitive German coachbuilding industry. Rupert Stuhlemmer looks at the role of one of the most prominent companies of those days, whose production spanned the years until the mid-forties.

These were years of great change, both in Germany and for Erdmann & Rossi, but they steadily built a reputation for the construction of elegant bodies on such chassis as Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce, Horch, Maybach, Derby Bentley and Bugatti to name just a few.

As the illustrations in the book richly show, it was not only luxury cars that the company manufac¬tured: they were involved with military and commercial vehicles, aeroplanes and the controversial but serious art of streamlining.
